Chicago Bulls and Hawks use Microsoft Dynamics CRM

The blog post below is what's so funny about our competitors. What they fail to mention is that a) the United Center didnt actually evaluate salesforce.com. They probably went to the salesforce.com website and didn't do anything further. According to the press release, the quote from the Bulls is that their current CRM (SFDC) was not flexible or scalable enough. Hard to imagine when you have a whopping 3 users! Way to go Sonoma for securing that multi-million dollar account!

Chicago Bulls and Hawks use Microsoft Dynamics CRM: "

We just announced a press release about two of our high profile CRM customers, the Chicago Bulls and the Chicago Blackhawks! You can read the full press release on our website.

I am really proud of this deployment for a few reasons:

  • The United Center information technology team (the organizations that supports both the Bulls and the Hawks) conducted a very thorough CRM platform selection process considering 10+ different applications…including our good buddies at Salesforce.com. Of course, Microsoft Dynamics CRM came out of top!
  • This deployment is a great XRM example. The Bulls and Hawks have been slowly consolidating multiple disparate systems onto CRM, and now they have a single platform that supports sponsorship and marketing, community relations, ticket operations, and more! This system definitely contains more than your typical sales, marketing and service scenarios.
  • The Bulls and Hawks use CRM to support a pretty aggressive call center effort. Sonoma Partners took the out-of-the-box Microsoft CRM functionality and customized it very specifically for employees making non-stop outbound dials so they can be as efficient as possible. We also included some great tools for call center managers to route calls, assign work, and shift work as necessary.

savard Lastly (most importantly?!), I am a die-hard Blackhawks fan so it’s pretty cool to go the United Center for our business meetings. I remember that in one of our very early meetings, the Blackhawks coach (and hockey Hall of Famer) Denis Savard came in, sat down and started chatting it up with us. Unfortunately he quickly realized he was in the wrong conference room, so he said good-bye and bolted. Even though it was short-lived it was fun, he was a super nice guy.

Google Reader's "Send to" Feature

Google Reader's "Send to" Feature: "Google Reader added a new feature that lets you share posts in other services: Twitter, Facebook, Digg. The feature is opt-in, so you need to go to the settings page, click on the 'Send to' tab and pick your favorite services.

After selecting an item, use the keyboard shortcut Shift+T to quickly open the 'send to' menu. Google Reader opens a new tab when you choose one of the 'send to' options and most of the necessary information it's already pre-filled.

If your favorite service is not included in Google Reader's list, you can add it from the settings page by clicking on 'Create a custom link'. Here's how to add a 'send to' option for Google Bookmarks.

Name: Google Bookmarks
URL: http://www.google.com/bookmarks/mark?op=edit&output=popup&bkmk=http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2009/08/google-readers-send-to-feature.html&title=Google Reader's 'Send to' Feature
Icon URL: http://www.google.com/favicon.ico

And here's how to use AddToAny, a service that lets you select between many social sites.

Name: Add to Any
URL: http://www.addtoany.com/share_save?linkurl=http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2009/08/google-readers-send-to-feature.html&linkname=Google Reader's 'Send to' Feature
Icon URL: http://www.addtoany.com/favicon.ico

Google Reader added two other options: you can now subscribe to sites added to your contacts' profiles and mark as read items older than a day, a week or two weeks. The second option is useful if you have a lot of unread items and you only want to read the recent news. As you probably know, Google Reader automatically marks as read the items that are older than a month and this can't be changed.

Adding salesforce.com Blogs to Google Reader

I am a HUGE blogger reader. I read in the neighborhood of 20-30 blogs a day. Most of them have multiple posts. You don't have to spend your entire day reading blogs but instead, read them like you read email. Sometimes quick. Somestimes you dig into them. Sometimes you forward them. Sometimes you flag them for later.

I have found that Google Reader is the best medium for me to keep up with all the blogs I like to read. (Please click here for my favorite salesforce.com Blogs.)

Here are instructions for how to set up your own Google Reader:

Click here and sign up for a new Google account. (If you already have Gmail, PicasaWeb or Google Docs account, you are already set.) Once you have a Google Reader account, you can simply find the RSS Feeds you want to subscribe too and click on the RSS icon.

Login to Google Reader

Once you log in, there is a pretty simple interface, not unlike most webmail applications. There is a folder set on the left, a search area up top and all your feeds displayed in the center. (My screenshot below has been modified to fit this window). Google Reader also has the ability to go offline, so you can read your blogs on an airplane or where ever else you somehow cannot get online.

As an example, let's subscribe to the "Latest AppExchange Postings", which will allow you to see what is uploaded to the AppExchange every day.

Navigate to www.appexchange.com and click on the RSS Icon next to the "Latest Postings"

A page (similar to the screenshot below) will appear. Simply click ADD TO GOOGLE READER to subscribe to this feed

Once you click on the button, the feed will automatically populate the reader

Another GREAT feed to add is the Salesforce.com Blog from CRM Success.

Click here and navigate to Successforce

On the bottom left, look for the RSS Feed Icon. Click on the icon and the feed will be added to Google Reader the same was as shown above

Click ADD TO GOOGLE READER

The Feed will then be added to Google Reader

If you start to add more and more feeds, you may want to "bucket" them into folders, similar to your email. To add a new folder, click on the "FEED SETTINGS" button and click on NEW FOLDER

Name your folder

The feed you were looking at will automatically be added to that folder. To add another feed to the folder, click on the feed link (on the left) then FEED SETTINGS > Click on the Folder to automatically add it.

You may also want to start researching your customers and prospects in the news to stay on top of what is happening with them. If you search your prospects in Google News, you can add any search criteria to Google Reader.

Navigate to http://news.google.com. Enter the search keyword

On the left hand side, you will see links for the RSS Feed

Click on RSS and add the feed to Google Reader

All new feeds will automatically appear in Google Reader like magic!

As I mentioned, I subscribe to roughly 20 Salesforce blogs alone. If you are as interested, click here to start adding your own salesforce.com Blogs to Google Reader. Find the RSS FEED Icon within those sites and add them to Google Reader.
